Copper is unattractive to magnets of any kind. Get a magnet of some sort to test your bottle. Check to see if the bottle sticks to the magnet; if it does, it isn’t made of copper. Passing the magnet test does not guarantee that your bottle is made of copper, but it’s a start.

Copper has a hardness of 1.7 x 10-8 Ohm/meter. Use a multimeter to see if your copper bottle’s resistance level is adequate. Set your multimeter to “ohms,” the scientific unit for measuring resistance that is symbolised by the Greek letter omega. Place both the red and black probe tips on your bottle, and set the multimeter to the lowest possible position. Then look at the resistance rating—if it says 1.7 x 10-8, you can be sure your bottle is made of copper. An ohmmeter can be purchased at the nearest home improvement shop.

The density of genuine copper is 8.96 grammes per cm3. Fill your bottle halfway with water to determine its volume, or the amount of liquid it can carry. Then, using a scale, determine the bottle’s mass in grammes. Divide the mass by the volume—authentic copper density is usually about 8.96 grammes per cm3. For example, if your water bottle weighed 1,000 grams and held 2400 cm³ of water, the density would only be 0.42 grams per cm³—therefore, it wouldn’t be really copper.

Give your bottle’s surface a short tap—does it sound tinny? Copper has a smooth, resonating sound rather than a sharp one.

When copper is exposed to the elements, it turns blue-green. Patina is a blue-green stain that helps to resist long-term corrosion. You can be certain that your bottle is made of real copper if it has this blue-green patina. You won’t see any green spots if your bottle is brand new.

Copper is a delicate metal that can contain flaws. If you’re using a second-hand copper bottle, it’s likely to have a few dings and dents from its previous life. If the surface is absolutely smooth, your bottle might not be made of pure copper. If your bottle is brand new, it can be free of dents and flaws.

A counterfeit purchase can be avoided with careful shopping. While some online shops claim to sell genuine copper bottles, they may be selling knockoffs. Rather than taking a chance with a business you don’t know, purchase from a reputable copper seller for high-quality, genuine products. If you do decide to purchase a copper bottle online, make sure to read the customer feedback first.

If you see a copper bottle that does not develop a patina over time, it is likely coated in toxic lacquer. Many other sellers are selling copper bottles that are coated on the interior with a lacquer that is toxic and should not be in contact with your drinking water.

We specifically choose not to make double-walled or insulated copper bottles, and there are two very important reasons why.
There are only two reasons to use a double-walled or insulated bottle: to keep water cold, or to keep it hot. When it comes to cold water, Ayurveda recommends drinking room temperature or lukewarm water rather than cold water as doing so can literally douse the digestive fire that builds up in our bodies. Because the healthiest approach is to drink room temperature or lukewarm water, we do not make double-walled or insulated copper bottles.

It is highly unlikely that you will drink too much copper infused water. Studies have shown that the copper trace that is found in water after it has been stored in a copper vessel is totally safe for consumption. We recommend that 1 litre of copper infused water is drunk a day.

You can use any type of water in your copper water bottle, including tap water, water that has been passed through a filter, or even bottled water. (However please make sure the water is not hot). You will probably notice the greatest difference with tap water, which is generally the least alkaline and in need of the most care. Although tap water is generally fine in most first-world cities, you may want to filter your water before pouring it into your copper water bottle.

We recommend that you only use water because copper can react with acidic liquids (anything with a pH of less than 7). If you want to flavour your water then add this to the glass once the water has been poured from the copper bottle.

Do not put hot liquids or tea or coffee in your copper bottle as the copper may react to the heat and the acidity of those ingredients.

You can store your bottle in the fridge if desired (keeping in mind that it is best to drink room temperature water as mentioned above), however you should never place your copper bottle in the freezer as it could explode.

Yes, you should follow the cleaning instructions before using it and then repeat weekly.

The bottle has self-cleaning properties so there is no need to wash it every day but we recommend you clean your bottle using our instructions about once a week.

Copper naturally oxidises and this changes its appearance over time. As your bottle is 100% copper this may happen – it will patina on both the inside and outside of the bottle. Many people like this graceful, ancient appearance. However, if you would rather have the copper shine, follow the simple instructions.
